Long-context models arrive on the edge: Qwen 3.8-27B and Kimi K2.6 on Workers AI

Cloudflare's Workers AI added Qwen 3.8-27B, a 27-billion-parameter vision-language model with image and text input, reasoning, function calling, and a 262,144-token context window for longer agentic workflows (tracked on Releasebot's Cloudflare AI changelog, September 2026). It follows Moonshot AI's Kimi K2.6 (April 2026): a 1-trillion-parameter MoE model with 32B active parameters, a 262.1k context window, vision, and agentic capabilities on the same platform.
The pattern matches the rest of 2026: long context plus function calling, running on serverless GPUs close to users instead of a distant region. For document-heavy teams — legal, research, operations — whole archives now fit in one pass, and the inference runs on the edge network rather than hardware you manage.
